○The Importance of Service in Japanese
Let me tell you a story about the Korean clinic I deal with. The owner,
who can speak Japanese, once inserted main telephone number on its ad,
saying “Japanese OK.” He hoped to get more Japanese clients, but unfortunately,
his business was not successful. How come? Well, to tell you the truth,
the telephone line was not directly connected to a Japanese operator even
though the ad said “Japanese OK.” In other words, clients had to ask an
English operator to transfer them to a Japanese one. Since a lot of Japanese
people were not confident with speaking English, they ended up hanging
up the phone before getting transferred to a Japanese operator. What a
pity! The clinic lost so many potential clients! Surprisingly, a lot of
Japanese people do not feel comfortable with speaking English. The survey
done by ----------- two years ago revealed that more than 80% of Japanese
people preferred services in Japanese. It was the same for those who have
been living here for more than 10 years.
Since the clinic inserted Japanese direct line (cell phone number) on its
ad, however, it has been successful. Why don’t we reconsider the importance
of Japanese service and review advertisements? If you have any questions

○ 日本語サービスの重要性
私が担当するクリニックの話。担当の方は日本語を話される韓国人の方で、広告には代表の電話番号だけを掲載し「日本語可」と表記し、英語スピーカーからつなぐという対応をされました。反響が薄いということでしたが、原因を探ってみると電話はかかってきているものの、英語を苦手とする日本人の方は、日本語担当につなぐ前やボイスメールへ残すお願いをしても電話を切ってしまうとのことでした。せっかく興味を持って電話をして頂いたにも関わらず、取りこぼしてしまうのはもったいない話。英語に抵抗のある方は意外に多いということのようです。------------
が２年前に実施したアンケート結果では業種によって差はありますが、８割以上の方が日本語のサービスを希望すると言う結果でした。しかも１０年以上こちらに滞在している方で絞ってみても同様でした。
そのクリニックは広告内に日本語のダイレクトライン（携帯電話番号）を記載し、以来、取りこぼしなく来ていただけるようになりました。みなさんも今一度、日本語でのサービスの重要性を再確認して、広告を見直してみてはいかがでしょうか?疑問を感じられている方はお気軽に担当営業にご相談ください。一緒に改善していきましょう。
